Metrics Working Group

TraxStar Technologies is calling together a group of lab people with a goal of establishing industry standard lab metrics. So far, representatives of BorgWarner, Cisco, Hewlett Packard, Nokia Mobile Phones, Motorola Automotive, Panduit and TRW Automotive are participating. In our discussions with many of you, we find that, irrespective of the particular products or industries you serve, discrete manufacturers have common processes and common goals in their test labs. A standard set of metrics for the industry will greatly improve the measurability of test lab performance.

The effort to establish standards for lab metrics is being driven by TraxStar Technologies, by our QATrax customers and by other interested industry members. Participation is not limited to this group, but is extended to any interested parties. If you are interested in participating in some fashion, please email metrics@traxstar.com or call Phil Irion at (800) 943-7759.

TraxStar will host a workshop the afternoon of August 8th, concurrent with the IEEE EMC 2005 Symposium, to establish an ongoing Working Group to develop Industry Standard Test Lab Metrics. The goal of this first Working Group meeting is to establish the Working Group, and establish a process for identifying, categorizing and defining a standard set of metrics that are applicable industry-wide. Please review the workshop agenda for more information.

Additionally, at this workshop, TraxStar will present the results of its metrics survey. Participation in the metrics survey begins June 15th. Please ask those colleagues who represent different labs to take the survey. This survey is extremely important to help determine what metrics are being used in the industry and which metrics are most meaningful. Participation in the survey will guarantee that you get a copy of its results since this is a collaborative effort to improve test lab metrics for the whole industry.

A separate e-mail will be sent with a link to the survey.
